Aeilantha - Propaganda Poster

A priestess’ effort to tempt wayward souls to her church. This propaganda poster takes much inspiration from those of World War II, which glorified American soldiers at work overseas and behaved like a call to action to American citizens to make a difference.

The character of Aeilantha is inspired by a character I have played in Dungeons & Dragons.

Aeilantha is one of 8 sisters currently competing for the title of high priestess of their church. This contest is centered around converting as many individuals to their religion and to their church, which worships Lolth, the goddess of chaos darkness, and spiders.

Each of the sisters represents one of the first interpretation of the 7 deadly sins known as the “eight evil thoughts” of the Christian religion, with Aeilantha representing lust. Originally there were only 7 sisters, including Aeilantha herself, but in order to keep with the magic number of 8 in terms of the spider, I decided to incorporate the former sin of sorrow.

Because Aeilantha represents the sin of lust, a main aspect of her design was her feminine charm and carnal appeal, those being her main weapon of choice when seducing individuals into following her cause.

Basic character rendering of Aeilantha; since the creation of this image, her outfit has undergone minor changes.

The inclusion of many spider-like symbols and patterns pays tribute to the goddess Lolth who is half spider. Over the years she has been given many different crests, symbols, and holy (or unholy) idols which her followers often carry or accessorize with.
