Welcome to the World of Pokémon

In high school, along with a group of friends, I began the arduous journey of developing my own fan interpretation of a Pokémon game. This passion project has gone through so many different phases and iterations and storylines, although some things have remained similar or the same since its conception, for the most part this world has become something entirely new and something so much more than what it was in its early days.

Although at this point it is predominantly just myself who is still working on this project, I feel as though I have risen to the occasion and used this passion project to help develop my own creativity through means of character and creature creation as well as story writing. This has been such a worthwhile project and even though I am far from done with this world, I am very proud with what I have been able to make here and I am excited to continue to further flesh everything out here.

Without further ado, allow me to guide you through the world of Pokémon Opal and Jet.

Explore the Region of Aegrius

Your journey unfolds in a land called Aegrius, a place which takes quite a bit of inspiration from the locations and cultures of Greece! Take on the Gym Challenge and travel throughout the diverse landscape of Aegrius; whether it be scaling the mountains of Karyda and Aktinidia, or exploring the Fraoula National Park. Braving the Man’nko Desert, or taking in the calm scenery of Karampola Town. Relaxing at the Nektarini Town Resort, or uncovering the secrets of the Necropolis. There is a whole world to go out and discover, and unforgettable adventures to be had!

Introducing Player Inclusivity

Begin your adventure as one of three possible player characters, Lydia, Nico, and the first (and long overdue) option for a gender neutral player character, Raine. Start your journey in a small town called Milo, where you will meet the Pokémon Professor, Olive, who will provide you with the opportunity to begin the adventure of a lifetime.

The Mask Pokémon

Wirlis

The face of Wirlis is believed to be a mask cobbled together from various ruins and debris near where they first hatch. No one has ever managed to witness what the true face of Wirlis actually looks like. Because they always appear to wince at any form of contact, it is theorized that Wirlis are in constant pain, wearing a smiling mask as a façade. The only indication of its true emotion are the bubbles flowing from the top of its head, which alter in frequency and temperature depending on its current mood.

The Branching Pokémon

Ternol

Despite having their eyes always covered, Ternol never seem to have any problem navigating their surroundings. It is theorized that they are able to commune with the plantlife around them, which helps guide along the way they need to go and inform them of events around them. This hypothesis is supported further by studies of Ternol placed in dense cities and arid environments, who showed difficulty finding their way around. The flower on Ternol’s head is able to emit an aromatic spore which soothes those who breathe it in.

The Fire Calf Pokémon

Caflint

Caflint’s fangs hide away a tiny pair of venom sacs. The venom of a Caflint is mostly harmless, only inflicting the victim with a considerable fever. The bell around Caflint’s neck, when rang, emits healing sound waves which are able to alleviate sickness in those who hear it. As Caflint runs, its hooves become hot to the touch, scorching the grass beneath its feet as it runs. Because of this, herds of Caflint are very easy to track.

Learn the History of Aegrius: Land of the Gods

The Epiphany Pokémon Kiroprysma

The Obfuscate Pokémon Tzeturedge

The region of Aegrius has quite a significant and traditional admiration for Pokémon with the Legendary and Mythical classification, so much so that these Pokémon are regarded as what we would call Gods. Each Legendary Pokémon is given its own domain to oversee, and many different places prioritize their focus towards the worship of these deities. Professor Olive focuses her research towards the Mythology of the Pokémon world and the study of these Legendary Pokémon. She asks you to help her in her studies as you tour the region taking on the Gym Challenge.

While many of the Legendary Pokémon of the world are not necessarily native to Aegrius, there is a group of sibling deities who call Aegrius their home, namely Kiroprysma, the God of Clarity, and Tzeturedge, the God of Deceit. These two have waged a power struggle among themselves for millennia, over an item called the Rose Window. Kiroprysma lives its life as the Guardian of the Rose Window, while Tzeturedge tasks itself as the Soldier of Corruption seeking to pervert the sanctity of the Rose Window. Kiroprysma had previously sealed away Tzeturedge to prevent it from taking the Rose Window, but a new threat lurks in the shadows, seeking to use Tzeturedge in order to achieve their own goals.

Familiar Faces, Reimagined

The Puppy Pokémon

Poochyena (Aegrian Form)

While Poochyena in other regions are often rather aggressive and territorial in nature, Poochyena of Aegrius are playful and loyal companions, often having a carefree demeanor. They tend to live in heavily forested areas as well as the snowy forests of Mt. Karyda, often in small packs with other Poochyena and Mightyena.

There have been multiple reports of wild Poochyena saving stranded or exhausted hikers from the dangerous mountainside, returning them to nearby settlements or towns. Their excellent sense of hearing and well insulated bodies allows them to be the perfect rescue Pokémon of the snowy mountains.

The Tai Chi Pokémon

Mienfoo (Aegrian Form)

Mienfoo of Aegrius tend to be much more calm and thoughtful compared to their Unovan counterparts. They spend much of their time meditating near waterways, aligning their movements with the gentle flow of creeks and streams.

Aegrian Mienfoo have a small amount of innate psychic abilities, specifically when it comes to controlling sources of water around them. They are able to transport water as well as attack with it, moving their body with the flow of the waves in a graceful yet devastating manner.

The Leech Pokémon

Tynamo (Aegrian Form)

Tynamo is a much more common sight in Aegrius compared to those found in Unova. They inhabit most any body of water, especially those whose flow has gone stagnant. Incredibly stealthy in the water, Aegrian Tynamo sneak up on those who trespass in their territory, latching onto their body and draining small portions of their life force as sustinence.

When in danger, Aegrian Tynamo launch globs of toxic stomach acid at foes in order to ward off predators. This stomach acid is able to cause fever and headaches for weeks after exposure. Tynamo also use this acid to subdue smaller, more agile prey.
